How to Require LLND Completion Prior to Enrolling Students in LMS Courses

Idea
Overview
This tutorial will guide you through setting up the Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) Skills Assessment as a requirement before enrolling students in their LMS courses. This will require students to complete the LLND course, which is configured at the program instance level, before they can be enrolled in any LMS courses.

WarningIMPORTANT: The Program Instance units MUST be integrated to their corresponding LMS courses prior to accepting student enrolments.

Notes
Step Tutorial
1. From the sidebar menu, go to Programs > Program Instances. Search and select for the program instance, then click on the LLND tab.

2. In the Requires LLND dropdown field, select whether the program instance requires the LLN Assessment, Digital Skills Assessment, or Both. Additional fields will become available once an option is selected.

In the sample below, we selected Both LLN and Digital Skills Assessment.

3. Complete the following fields:
  1. LLN LMS Course - Select the correct LLN course from the dropdown list.
  2. Digital Skills LMS Course - Select the correct Digital Skills course from the dropdown list.
  3. Enrol LLND Course On - Select the enrolment status of the program instance that should trigger the student's enrolment in the LLND course.
  4. Require LLND Successful Completion Before Enrolling Units in LMS - Enable the toggle to require successful LLND completion before enrolling the student in LMS units.
  5. If Successful LLND Outcome, Set Enrolment Status To - Select the enrolment status of the program instance if the LLND course is successfully completed.
IMPORTANT: To automatically enrol the student in the LMS, an Ongoing (Enrolled or Course Commenced) enrolment status is required.
  1. If Unsuccessful LLND Outcome, Set Enrolment Status To - Select the enrolment status of the program instance if the LLND course is not successfully completed.
Once done, click the Update button.

Conditions Where LLND Is Not Required

If your organisation allows certain students to be exempt from completing LLND assessments, you can configure conditions that automatically determine when LLND is not required. When an enrolment satisfies any configured condition, the system treats the enrolment as though the LLND assessment has been successfully completed and applies the corresponding successful LLND enrolment status.

Configure LLND Exemption Conditions

After selecting the required LLND assessment and configuring the LLND courses, the Conditions Where LLND Is Not Required section becomes available.

Complete any of the following settings as required.

Prior Education Level Is the Same or Higher Than

  • Prior Education Level Is the Same or Higher Than – Select the minimum qualification level that allows a student to be exempt from LLND.

Available options include:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher degree level
  • Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree level
  • Diploma level
  • Certificate IV
  • Certificate III
  • Certificate II
  • Certificate I

Note: If the student's recorded prior education meets or exceeds the selected level, LLND is automatically no longer required unless evidence review has also been enabled.

Prior Education Evidence Review

If Prior Education Evidence Must be Reviewed/Approved to Progress is enabled:

  • Students enrolling through Smart Enrol are prompted to upload supporting evidence of their prior education.
  • The client receives an email notification advising that a prior education review is required.
  • An administrator must review the evidence before the LLND exemption is applied.

Review the submitted evidence by navigating to:

Students > LLND > Prior Education Review

Complete the following field:

  • Prior Education Evidence Reviewed as Acceptable – Select Yes to exempt the student from LLND, or No to require the student to complete the configured LLND assessment.

Note: When approved, the system records the LLND Not Required Reason for the enrolment.

Has Already Successfully Completed an LLND Assessment With the Same Benchmark

Enable this option to exempt students who have previously completed an LLND assessment with the same or a higher benchmark than the current enrolment.

Student Has Already Successfully Completed a Program at the Same or Higher Level

Enable this option to exempt students who have already completed a program at the same or higher qualification level.

When this condition is met, the enrolment is automatically marked as not requiring LLND.

Student Has Completed One of These Programs

Select one or more programs that qualify students for an LLND exemption.

If a student has successfully completed any of the selected programs, LLND is automatically no longer required.

FAQs
Why isn’t the student enrolled in the course/s despite passing the LLND?
When the LLND setup is properly configured, it’s also worth checking the Enrolment Form tab of the Program Instance, specifically under the Financial Settings section. It’s important to set a value for the Set Paid Enrolment Application To field, which must be an Ongoing (Enrolled or Course Commenced) enrolment status.

This way, we can ensure that when a student passes the LLND and pays the fees, they’ll be automatically enrolled in the course/s.
