How to Record an Appeal in the SMS

Overview
This tutorial provides guidance on lodging an appeal within the SMS. It outlines the process for recording appeal details, including the appellant's information, assessment decision dates, unit specifics, and the reasons for the appeal. The tutorial also covers specifying the outcomes sought, suggestions for improvement, reviewer details, and attaching relevant documentation. This ensures that Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) can maintain accurate and compliant records of appeals, aligning with Australian vocational education standards.

Step Tutorial
1. From the Dashboard, navigate to Compliance, then select Appeals, then click the plus icon.

2. Provide information in the following fields:
- Appellant Type – Identifies the person lodging the appeal, typically a student.
- Student – The name of the student submitting the appeal.
- Date Created – The date the appeal record was entered into the system.
- Date of Assessment Decision – The date the original assessment outcome was issued.
- Unit – The specific unit of competency related to the appeal.
- Assessor – The trainer or assessor responsible for the original assessment decision.
- Outcome Sought – The result or resolution the appellant is requesting.
- Reason for Appeal – A brief explanation of why the appeal is being made.
- Appeal Outcome – The final decision made in response to the appeal.
- Reviewed By – The individual who reviewed and resolved the appeal.
- Date Reviewed – The date the appeal review was completed.
- Document – Any supporting files or evidence uploaded with the appeal.
- Status – Indicates the current stage of the appeal process (e.g. pending, resolved).
Once completed, click the Save button.

3. A confirmation will appear indicating that the appeal was made. Click OK to close the prompt.
You should now be able to see the appeal listed.
